How Paper 3 works

Paper 3 is HL only: 2 hours 30 minutes, three essays, each out of 15 (total 45), demanding depth of knowledge about specific European histories.

The French Revolution and Napoleon

The French Revolution began in 1789 with the storming of the Bastille (14 July 1789), overthrowing the monarchy. Its radical Reign of Terror (1793-1794) gave way to Napoleon, whose empire ended at the Battle of Waterloo (1815).

The unifications of Italy and Germany

Nationalism reshaped 19th-century Europe. Italy was unified by 1861, and Germany was unified under Otto von Bismarck in 1871 following wars of unification and his practice of Realpolitik.
