The digital thread

Digital tools connect design to manufacture in one digital thread: a model is created in CAD, tested by simulation, then made by CAM-driven machines β€” with data flowing all the way to stock control.

Computer-aided design (CAD)

CAD creates 2D drawings and 3D models on screen. Benefits over hand drawing:

  • Designs are easy to edit and dimension precisely (parametric models update automatically).
  • Photorealistic rendering and 3D views for client presentation.
  • Models can be tested virtually and shared instantly with a global team.
  • Standard component libraries speed up work and aid standardisation.

Computer-aided manufacture (CAM)
